Conference Offers Opportunity to Understand Medicare

Oct. 21, 2004 – People who want to know more about Medicare can attend conferences offered on St. Thomas and St. Croix.
Lt. Gov. Vargrave Richards invites the public to attend the Annual V.I. SHIP Conference, presented by the V.I. State Health Insurance Assistance Program/V.I. Medicare Office, a division of the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.
The 2004 Conference theme, "Fostering Understanding of Medicare Issues," will include clarification of the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003, as well as discussion on the Medicare Drug Discount Card and Transitional Assistance Programs. It will also feature health and eye screenings, Richards said in a release.
The conference will be held on St. Croix on Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Gertrude's Restaurant; and on St. Thomas on Oct. 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Holiday Inn (formerly Windward Passage).
Registration is free and on a first-come, first-served basis. To register, call Kitichia Weekes, V.I. Medicare coordinator/SHIP director, at 772-7368 on St. Croix, or Shirley Quetel-Hendricks at 714-4354 on St. Thomas.
