The World Amateur Team title is determined by four days of stroke play, in which a country may field a team of two or three players. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores by players from each team constitutes the team score for the round. The four-day total is the team’s score for the championship.
The World Amateur Team Championship has been played every two years since 1964 for the Espirito Santo Trophy. Australia is the defending women’s champions and Team USA is the defending men’s champions from the 2002 championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The championship is rotated biennially among three geographic zones: Asia-Pacific, American, and European-African. The 2004 competition is hosted by the Puerto Rico Golf Association, which is also celebrating its 50th anniversary. Real-time scoring will be available through the Puerto Rico Golf Association’s Web site www.prga.org. The V. I. Golf Federation, a V. I. non-profit corporation promotes golf through clinics, competition and disseminating information throughout the Virgin Islands, fosters the growth of junior golf through education and instruction, and acts as a governing body for the St. Thomas/St. John Golf Association and the St. Croix Golf Association.Back Talk
