Hotel & Tourism Association Questions Candidates

Oct. 14, 2004 – Members of the V.I. Hotel & Tourism Association are circulating questions to all senatorial candidates to establish their position on issues critical to the industry, according to a release.
The questions are:
-Given the success of tourism education in other destinations such as the Bahamas, what action steps would you take to promote tourism education at elementary and junior high levels in the public school system?
-Outline three ways to improve tourism marketing in the V.I.? What do you see as the role of the public and private sectors in marketing the V.I.?
-What changes do you feel are necessary to improve the infrastructure of the Virgin Islands for the success of tourism?
-What do you feel is the number one priority to improve safety and security for residents and visitors alike in the V.I.? How do you propose to fund it?
The USVI Hotel & Tourism Association is a not-for-profit trade organization which represents more than 200 businesses in the territory.
Deadline for responses is Tuesday, Oct. 19. The candidates’ answers will be distributed to the 8,000-plus industry associates and published in the local media. For more information contact the Hotel & Tourism Association at 774-6835.
