It is truly an unfortunate thing. But perhaps this government will finally pass laws and repeal others that negatively impact any business in the USVI. Repeal the gross receipts tax or at least significantly reduce it and perhaps even provide tax credits to new businesses (even if they are temporary and phased back after the company has been in business for 5 years). The process of just trying to get a business license here is a pain. I do want to thank Commissioner Rutnik for the ability to at least apply on-line. Kudos to him!
Since the type of business I do permits me to work at home I have to 1) get a letter from the condo association (which they will give me) and 2) fill out another form for a home based business and provided those to DPNR. Then the IRB can’t understand the simple statement that I resided in California from 1991 until I moved here (I was born on the mainland and lived there until early this year), and paid taxes to the State of California, and filed my Federal incomes tax returns to the IRS in Fresno, CA. So they send me a nasty letter about being delinquent in paying taxes. So I have to get the same form I submitted online notarized and as a safety precaution bring copies of my tax returns.
