Student Exchange Program Opportunity Available with SUNY New Paltz
UVI's Vice Provost for Academic and Student Affairs invites students of all disciplines to participate in an exchange program with the State University of New York at New Paltz.
Applications for Spring 2005 are currently available. Students who submit applications by Nov. 1, 2004, will receive priority processing. For more information contact the Student Exchange Office at 693-1207. UVI faculty and staff are asked to help inform students about this program.

UVI St. Croix Alumni Chapter Sets Oct. 1 Meeting to Attract New Members
The University of the Virgin Islands Alumni Association St. Croix Chapter invites all alumni and friends of alumni interested in becoming active members of the Association to a general chapter meeting on Friday, Oct. 1. The meeting will be held at the St. Croix campus Theater located in the Melvin Evans Center (room 401) from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. For more information about the meeting, please contact Wendy Wheeler at 692-4023.
UVI to Host ODI Tennis Championships Oct. 1 – 3 on St. Croix
The University of the Virgin Islands will host the ODI League Tennis Championships from Friday, Oct. 1, through Sunday, Oct. 3, at the Buccaneer Hotel Tennis Courts on St.Croix. Six of the ODI member Universities – including UVI – will be taking part in the men's and women's singles, doubles, and team championships. CMES Researcher to Present VI-EPSCoR Science Lecture on Friday, Oct 1.
Steve Herzlieb, a research analyst for the Center for Marine and Environmental Studies (CMES) will present the next in the VI-EPSCoR Seminar Series of science lectures at the University of the Virgin Islands from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1. The title of Herzlieb's presentation is "Coral Reef Video Monitoring." He will detail how video techniques combined with enriched air diving has allowed UVI researchers to begin monitoring reefs that were previously too deep to be reached.
The seminar is free and open to the public. It will originate in Chase Auditorium (Business Education Room 110) on UVI's St. Thomas campus and be videoconferenced to Evans Center Room 401 on the St. Croix campus. The series continues each Friday through Nov. 19. It is hosted by UVI's Center for Marine and Environmental Studies, the Division of Science and Mathematics and the VI-Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) program. Law School Admission Test Scheduled Oct. 2 at UVI's St. Thomas Campus
The Law School Admission Test (LSAT) will be administered this Saturday, Oct. 2, in Humanities Building Room 200 on the St. Thomas campus of the University of the Virgin Islands. Candidates should report at 7:30 a.m. For more information call 693-1152.
VIUCEDD Art Class for Disabled Children to Begin Oct. 2 at Schneider Hospital
The University of the Virgin Islands center for the disabled is continuing its art class for disabled children between the ages of eight and 13 years. The Virgin Islands University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (VIUCEDD) Art Class with Lucinda Schutt begins on Saturday, Oct. 2, and runs every Saturday through November 13. Classes will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Roy L. Schneider Hospital on St. Thomas. Parents may register their children or obtain more information by calling Schutt at 775-1023 or VIUCEDD at 693-1189.
UVI Human Resources Announces GERS Workshops Rescheduled
UVI's Human Resources Department has announced that Government Employees Retirement System (GERS) members who are close to retirement or interested in learning more about the benefits of the system are urged to attend one of the following informational sessions that have been rescheduled from their original dates in September. Refreshments will be served.

St. Croix Campus Bookstore to Reopen on Oct. 4
The UVI Bookstore on the St. Croix campus, which has been closed this week for inventory, will reopen and resume regular hours on Monday, Oct. 4. For more information call 692-4162.
St. Thomas Campus Bookstore to Reopen Oct. 4 with Post-Inventory Sale
The UVI Bookstore on the St. Thomas campus will reopen following an inventory on Monday, Oct. 4. A post inventory sale, with discounts of from 40 to 75 percent off on selected supplies, will be offered. For more information call 693-1561
Conference to Focus on Legal Issues and Students with Mental Disorders
Members of the UVI community are invited to participate in an audio conference titled "Responding to Students with Mental Disorders: Law & Policy Issues," from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 6 in the Evans Center on UVI's St. Croix campus. The room number has yet to be announced.
The conference will be presented – via audio link – by Gary Pavela, director of judicial programs at the University of Maryland, College Park. Pavela is also editor of national legal publications. The forum will cover: ADA's (Americans With Disabilities Act) "reasonable accommodation" requirements; how to better manage the classroom environment; best practices in defining and responding to classroom disruption and how to identify and evaluate factors contributing to student anxiety and depression.

El Gran Combo to Open Reichhold Center for the Arts Season Oct. 9-10
The Reichhold Center for the Arts opens its 2004-2005 season with the Ambassadors of Latin Music, El Gran Combo, on Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Reichhold Center for the Arts, St. Thomas and on Sunday, Oct. 10, at Island Center for the Performing Arts on St. Croix. St. Croix Plans 'St. Croix Votes – VI Election 2004' Forums Oct. 12-14
The University of the Virgin Islands has announced that it will host a series of pre-election forums titled "St. Croix Votes – V.I. Election 2004" on Oct. 12-14. Sessions will take place at 7 p.m. in the Cafetorium on the St. Croix campus. The forums are designed to promote greater awareness of the issues surrounding the upcoming Virgin Islands election.
Candidates have been invited to participate on one of the three forum days. Candidates will present their platforms and respond to questions from a UVI panel and the audience. The UVI panel will include a student, a faculty member and a member of the professional staff. Faculty members interested in participating as panel members or moderators (one day) are being sought. The forums are being organized by UVI's St. Croix Office of the Associate Chancellor, the Student Government Association, Golden Key Honor Society and the Humanities Division.
Class Ring Information Session Set Oct. 13 on St. Croix Campus
Representative of class ring manufacturers will visit UVI's St. Croix campus on from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, to meet with students or alumni wishing
to begin the process of purchasing a class ring. The order process can take from three to six months, so interested students and alumni are encouraged to take advantage of this session. The representatives will meet with interested persons in Evans Center in the lobby area near the library. For more information call 692-4162.
