Restoration Begins on Finance Complex

Sept. 22, 2004- Phase 1 of the renovation of the Department of Finance's complex in downtown Charlotte Amalie began Sept. 21, according to a press release from Bernice A. Turnbull, department of finance commissioner.
Apex Construction Co, Inc. has been contracted to work on the project which includes the exterior repairs to the north and west faces of Building A and the east face of Building E. The Department of Planning and Natural Resources Historic Preservation Committee approved the restoration plans drawn by the dcJongh Group, PC Architects and Planners.
"The funds for Phase 1 of the project, which is expected to be completed in a year, was made available through a request from Gov. Charles W. Turnbull to the 24th Legislature. This is in keeping with his commitment to restore V. I. government buildings as funds become available," the commissioner said.
Turnbull apologized for the inconvenience and cautioned the public to be careful when entering or leaving the complex during this time of construction.
