UVI Reopens Following Passing of Tropical Storm Jeanne
The University of the Virgin Islands has reopened both campuses following two days of closure during the passing of Tropical Storm Jeanne. President LaVerne Ragster has commended the work done by the UVI Emergency Management Team and essential employees during this period.
The University community is advised to continue monitoring radio and online news and weather updates throughout the hurricane season. UVI's current status is always available on the UVI Emergency Operations Hotlines at 693-1016 on St. Thomas and at 692-4168 on St. Croix.
UVI's Roy Watlington to Present VI-EPSCoR Science Seminar Today
UVI Professor Roy Watlington will present the next in the VI-EPSCoR Seminar Series of science lectures at the University of the Virgin Islands today (Friday, Sept. 17) from 1 to 2 p.m. Watlington's presentation will focus on Caribbean oceanography. It is titled: "Coastal, Operational and Synoptic Scale Oceanography: On-going and Unfulfilled Research." The seminar is free and open to the public. It will originate in Teacher Education Room 213 on UVI's St. Thomas campus (this is a room change from previous announcements) and be videoconferenced to Evans Center Room 401 on the St. Croix campus.
The series will continue each Friday through Nov. 19. The series is hosted by UVI's Center for Marine and Environmental Studies, the Division of Science and Mathematics and the VI-Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) program. For more information, call 693-1380.
UVI Human Resources Updates GERS Announcement
UVI's Human Resources office has announced that the Government Employees Retirement System (GERS) has postponed workshops originally scheduled for Sept. 16 and 17 on the University's St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses, respectively. New dates for the workshops will be announced when they are available. The workshops are for members who are considering retiring or who wish to learn more about their benefits.
