Cancellations, Postponements Due to Weather

Here are announced cancellations, postponements, early dismissals and other actions of community interest taken in relation to the approach of Tropical Storm Jeanne. This posting is being updated continually as information becomes available.

Of Territorywide Interest
Government
– The Department of Human Services Retired Senior Volunteer Program recognition scheduled for Thursday is postponed until further notice.
– Health Department employees, who are all considered essential employees, are not expected to report for work Wednesday. Assessment teams and emergency responders are to be on standby Wednesday to make assessments in early afternoon if the weather allows.
– Territorial Court in both districts is closed Wednesday.
– Public schools on all three islands will be closed Wednesday.
– Executive branch agencies in both districts will be closed Wednesday. Essential employees are to report as usual.
Hospitals
– Workers at Roy L. Schneider Hospital are expected to report to work Wednesday. Day care will be provided for employees whose children are out of school. Those who cannot report to work as scheduled are asked to call their supervisors.
Transportation
– Cyril E. King Airport is closed Wednesday morning. Assessments will be made later in the morning.
– Henry E. Rohlsen Airport was still closed as of 7:30 a.m. due to high wind conditions. Darlin Brin, V.I. Port Authority director, said assessments would be made throughout the day.
– Seaborne Airlines is not flying on Wednesday until at least 10 a.m.
– Ferries between St. Thomas and St. John are not running until at least 10 a.m. or until weather clears.
– American Eagle and America Airlines will carry out selective cancellation of their flight schedule. Passengers are advised to the the toll free number for updates at 1-800-443-7300.
Legislature
– The Legislature has cancelled the full sessions scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.
University of the Virgin Islands
– Afternoon and evening classes on both campuses of the University of the Virgin Islands have been canceled for the remainder Wednesday. The University is expected to reopen on Thursday, with classes and administrative offices resuming a normal schedule. The University community is urged to monitor radio, tv and online news and weather updates, and to call the UVI emergency operations hotline number on St. Thomas at 693-1016. The St. Croix emergency operations hotline and the St. Croix campus AUDIX system are not functioning at this time.
Other departments and agencies
– The St Thomas and St. Croix Social Security Office will be closed on Wednesday. The toll free number is 1-800-772-1213 for more information.
– Water and Power Authority customer services offices closed at noon Tuesday. The will be re-open at 8 a.m. Wednesday unless otherwise notified. Employees of the line, water, plant and engineering divisions will remain in constant contact with their supervisors in order to respond immediately as necessary.
– The Human Service Department's Senior Citizen and Head Start Centers on all three islands will be closed Wednesday.
St. Croix
– Divi Carina Bay Casino closed earlier Tuesday night and is planning to open again at noon on Thursday, weather permitting. Casino employees can call Divi's hurricane hotline for additional information at 773-7529, extenstion 222.
– Registration for the Adult Vocational Education Program has been canceled for Tuesday night.
– Clinics scheduled at the Veterans Affairs community based outpatient clinics have been canceled for Wednesday. Patients with medical emergencies are encourged to visit their nearest emergency room.
– The St. Croix Hotel and Tourism Association's general meeting scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled. Watch for an announcement on date and time of rescheduled meeting. Call 774-6835 for further information.
– The Government Employees Retirement System's retirement workshop scheduled for Wednesday on St. Croix has been canceled.
St. Thomas
– All Saints Cathedral School is closed.
– Tutu Church of God is closed.
– Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral School is closed.
– Faith Alive Christian Academy is closed Wednesday.
– New Testament Academy is closed Wednesday.
– Tutu Church of God Academy is closed Wednesdy.
– Rotary East Wednesday night meeting is canceled.
– Wesleyan Academy of Thomas will be closed Wednesday.
– Virgin Islands Montessori School will be closed Wednesday.
– Antilles School is closed Wednesday.
– Clinics scheduled at the Veterans Affairs community based outpatient clinics have been canceled for Wednesday. Patients with medical emergencies are encourged to visit their nearest emergency room.
– Joseph E. Sibilly Elementary School open house scheduled for Tuesday night is canceled until further notice.
Businesses
– Dockside Bookshop is closed Wednesday.
St. John
– St. John School on Gift Hill is closed Wednesday
– St. John Christian Academy is closed Wednesday.
– Pine Peace Schools is closed Wednesday.
