Two St. John Hotels in Cooperative V.I. Promotion

Sept. 2, 2004 – The territory's hotels will get a big splash when a cooperative marketing effort between the U.S.V.I. Hotel and Tourism Association and GoGo Worldwide Vacations gets off the ground in September. This effort will run through the end of 2004.
"This is really important. We have not done a cooperative marketing agreement with GoGo for more than a year," Hotel Association president Beverly Nicholson said Thursday.
She said that GoGo, a travel wholesaler, sells 60 percent of all travel packages to the territory.
Seven hotels from St. Thomas, two from St. John and one from St. Croix are participating. They are Sapphire Beach Resort and Marina, Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort and Spa, Secret Harbour Beach Resort, the Ritz-Carlton, Bolongo Bay Beach Club, Marriott Frenchman's Reef Hotel, and the Holiday Inn Windward Passage Hotel in St. Thomas. St. John hotels are Caneel Bay Resort and the Westin Resort and Villas.
Those hotels contributed anywhere from $25,000 to $75,000 for a year's worth of cooperative marketing programs through the Hotel Association.
Nicholson said the Hibiscus Beach Hotel in St. Croix will participate in only the fall segment of the marketing program.
The hotels jointly contributed a total of $75,000 and GoGo, $25,000, for the fall cooperative marketing program.
It includes newspaper advertisements in key areas including New York, New Jersey, Boston, Hartford, and Philadelphia. The Virgin Islands will also be featured in a one-week promotion at Liberty Travel Agency offices across the country. Liberty is GoGo's retail arm.
And a team of sales representatives from the participating hotels and the Hotel Association will visit Liberty Travel agencies and GoGo Sales offices in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut areas.
"There are about 35 Liberty offices in New York alone," Nicholson said.
About 100 GoGo and Liberty agents are expected to participate in an educational seminar and fun day at GoGo Headquarters in Ramsey, N.J.
The V.I. hoteliers and Hotel Association representatives will also participate in a late September GoGo Learning Conference in the Dominican Republic. More than 500 of their top-producing agents will participate in seminars and trade shows at the event.
The 10 hotels contributing to this program will be represented at the tradeshow.
