UVI to host a United Nations Universities Consortium
UVI will host a series of meetings of the Small Islands Developing States Universities Consortium from Aug. 3-6. Under the auspices of the United Nations, the SIDS Universities Consortium meetings will include delegates from the University of Malta, the National University of Singapore, Veerapen University of Mauritius, The National University of Samoa, the University of the West Indies, as well as from UVI and the University of Puerto Rico.
The opening ceremony for the SIDS Universities Consortium will take place at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, at the Reichhold Center for the Arts. Reichhold to Feature Oliver Samuels Performances Aug. 13-15
The next production in UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts 2004 season will feature Oliver Samuels & Company in Patrick Brown's comedy "Christopher Cum-Buck-Us." Shows are scheduled on St. Croix at the Island Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, Aug. 13, and on St. Thomas at the Reichhold Center on UVI's St. Thomas campus on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 14 and 15. All shows begin at 8 p.m.
Tickets are available on St. Croix at People's Drug Store (Sunny Isles), Pier 69 (Frederiksted), Urban Threadz (Christiansted), the Reichhold Center ticketing office via telephone and the UVI Bookstore. On St. Thomas, tickets are available at Modern Music (both locations), Krystal Gifts Galore (Tutu Park Mall), Parrot Fish (Backstreet), the UVI Bookstore, Connections (on St. John), and the Reichhold Center ticketing office. Construction Underway on St. Croix Campus Information Kiosk
Construction has begun on a new information kiosk for UVI's St. Croix campus. The construction is sited along the campus' Palm Drive. The goal is to allow the university community and visitors from the public to view a directory of campus buildings and schedules of events taking place on the campus. Construction is scheduled to be completed in time for the beginning of the semester, although the scarcity of cement and building blocks in the territory has caused some delays.
St. Thomas Campus Library Posts New Hours
The Ralph Paiewonsky Library on the St. Thomas campus has announced new library hours from now through Aug. 18. The new hours are: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The library will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
The St. Croix Campus Library will retain its regular hours.
Annual St. Croix Hike and Beach Picnic Planned Sunday, Aug. 22
The annual St. Croix campus student, faculty and staff hike and beach picnic is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22. The hike begins at Point Udall and ends at Cramers' Park, with the picnic following. Buses will leave campus at 8:15 a.m. to transport students and staff as necessary to Point Udall. A short Interfaith service will be held at Point Udall immediately before the hike begins. For more information and to sign up call the St. Croix Chancellor's office at 692-4000 or send e-mail.
STARfest Featured Each Monday on WTJX-TV
The Virgin Islands' best singers and dancers are featured each Monday in STARfest on WTJX Public Television. The program includes highlights from past STARfests and airs at 8 p.m. It is offered in collaboration with UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts.
Contestants Sought for Miss UVI 2004-2005; Competition Set Oct. 30
UVI is recruiting female students interested in participating in the Miss UVI 2004-2005 competition. Miss UVI serves as a student ambassador for the university and receives several valuable prizes including a scholarship covering tuition, and room and board for two semesters. The deadline to apply is Monday, Aug. 30. The competition is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 30, at UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts.
