July 30, 2004 – The Coral Bay Community Council will hold its regular monthly meeting from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 9 at the John's Folly Learning Institute.
Gary Ray, an assistant professor of biology at the University of the Virgin Islands and a founder of the St. John Land Trust, will be the guest speaker. He will talk about conservation easements, land trusts and other strategies to preserve land as well as cultural and recreational resources.
Sharon Coldren, council president, said the topic is important because St. John has numerous coastal wetland areas, recreational areas and historic sites. "Citizens need to know some of the tools that can be used to protect them," she said.
The meeting also will include an update on current development projects in the Coral Bay area, she said.
