Here Are the Theme and Schedule of 2004-05 Festival

July 20, 2004 – "Sashay to Deh' Rhythm of Our Cultural Vibes for Festival 2004/2005" is the theme for the coming Crucian Christmas Festival, which will be held in Christiansted.
The festival committee is seeking candidates ages 17-23 to compete for the Miss St. Croix Festival Queen title and duos ages 8-11 to vie for festival prince and princess. Applications may be obtained by calling 719-3379 or by faxing a request to 719-3378. They also may be picked up in the festival office at Estate Barren Spot.
According to Audrey Browne, public relations officer, the festival office will not be staffed until closer to the Christmas season, but committee members will be checking for messages and faxes.
Meanwhile, entries also are being sought for the festival jingle contest. The competition is to select a jingle to use with all festival radio and television advertisements. "It may be a song or a poem that identifies festival — like a theme song," Browne said. Contact the festival office for further information.
Here's the schedule of festival events:
Saturday, Nov. 27 – Festival kickoff tramp
Sunday, Nov. 28 – Miss St. Croix candidates presentation
Friday, Dec. 12 – Prince and Princess Show
Saturday, Dec. 18 – Miss St. Croix Pageant
Sunday, Dec. 26 – Village opens
Monday, Dec. 27 – Youth Extravaganza

Saturday, Jan. 8 – Adults Parade
Sunday, Jan. 9 – Village closing
Browne said the re-construction of Times Square and the construction of a recreation building in the D.C. Canegata Ballpark will not alter festival plans in Christiansted. "Things may be downsized, but the show must go on," she said.
Roger Dewey, executive director of the St. Croix Foundation for Community Development, expressed optimism that the Times Square renovations may be far enough along for the public to have access to the area. He said construction will not be completed until February 2005, but "the square may be opened by Christmas." (See "$50k Grant to Help Renew Sunday Market Square".)
The recreation center being constructed in D.C. Canegata Ballpark is scheduled to be completed in September. Roy Canton, supervisor of planning and maintenance, said the committee will have to eliminate only three or four booths. "We will still have plenty of space," he said.
