Caribbean Theatre's 'Cheatin'' Opens June 18

June 17, 2004 – Caribbean Community Theatre's next presentation opens June 18. Del Shores' award-winning adult comedy "Cheatin'" runs for only two weekends on Friday and Saturday evenings, ending with a Sunday matinee on June 27.
The play is set in the west Texas watering hole of Lowake. Gossip — the town's major pastime — ignites a blaze of infidelity that engulfs three couples with the zany precision of a Feydeau farce, a release said. Reviews for the fast-paced comedy with a sense of authentic Texas humor include: Hollywood Reporter's "First rate;" L.A. Daily News' "A sodbuster;" LA. Times' "A hotcake of a Texas comedy."
For the St. Croix production, Jerome Agean, Annaly Babb-Guerra, Sarah DiMeo, Lionel Downer, Paul Hess, Derek Martin and Tish Mercier make up the talented cast of characters. Debby Babb directs, with Eileen Des Jardins as producer, and Rich Mackay on lights and sound.
Curtain time for evening performances, June 18, 19, 25 and 26, is 8 p.m. The matinee on June 27 will begin at 4 p.m. All performances will be held at the new Caribbean Community Theatre at #18 Estate Orange Grove, Christiansted. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students, with discounts available to CCT members. Please call 778-1983 for reservations, and arrive early for best seating.
"Cheatin'" is sponsored by Bryant, Barnes, Moss & Beckstedt LLP, Business World, Christiansted Apothecary Hall, Crucian Gold, Gotts & Associates Insurance Agency, Island Animal Clinic, Tish Mercier, Mongoose 104.9, Isle 95 and Sunny FM 99.5. The project is jointly supported by a grant from the V.I. Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C., a federal agency.
The release emphasized that "Cheatin'" is an adult comedy, not recommended for children under age 13.
