June 15, 2004 — The Mahogany Run Golf Course has new owners. The sale of the 18-hole course was finalized on Monday.
The Ginn Company, a Florida-based resort real estate developer purchased the island's only golf course from former owners Contran Corp., a Texas-based developer.
According to company officials in a news release, Mahogany Run is an "excellent addition" to the other public, private and resort golf courses that the Ginn Company currently operates.
"This is a one-of-a-kind golf layout and experience in one of the most picturesque locations in the world," Rich Hohman, executive vice president of asset development for the Ginn Company, said. "We are finalizing very exciting plans for upgrades and enhancements to the facilities, services and the golf course, which will make it an even more enjoyable experience for our members, guests and employees."
Hohman said one of the projects his company will soon undertake is the renovation of the clubhouse.
"We'll do an overall facelift for the clubhouse," Hohman said. "We may also look at expanding the course."
Hohman said in addition to purchasing the golf course, the company bought 85 acres around the property for any future expansions.
The golf course will retain its name and the famous Devil's Triangle — the Mahogany Run Golf Course's signature 13th, 14th and 15th holes that overlook the ocean and creates a challenge for golfers — will not be changed, Hohman said.
