COMTek Receives Patent for Data Security Software

June 14, 2004 – Communications Technologies (COMTek) recently received a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark office for No*Trace, the company's premier information security software, according to a release.
Joseph E. Fergus, a native Crucian and founder and CEO of COMTek, also is the inventor of No*Trace software.
"No*Trace is already in use by intense information security users," including the U.S. Department of Defense, which has for several years now employed COMTek software both domestically and abroad to "protect sensitive information from falling into the wrong hands," the release stated.
Through a relatively simple graphical interface, No*Trace users are able to secure and, when necessary, quickly and permanently remove sensitive information from desktop and laptop computers.
The company's Web site explains that professionals in industries as divergent as health care, finance and insurance have begun adopting stricter measures to secure their private data. No*Trace is particularly valuable to employees in the public and private sectors who travel with valuable data stored on laptops.
"We are excited to have received a patent on No*Trace. Now COMTek has the sole rights to the process we've created," Fergus said in the release.
Fergus, a former senior scientist with Bell Labs, founded COMTek in 1990. In the 14 years since its creation, the company has grow to be a leading provider of global broadband services, telecommunications and information technology and training.
Earlier this year, the company earned a place among Black Enterprise Magazine's top 100 industrial and service companies in the nation.
Over the next few months COMTek is planning to roll out a host of new broadband telecommunications services that will be available to businesses, families and individuals throughout the territory.
In a recent interview, Fergus spoke of his "total commitment to excellence" in the services his company provides. COMTek, headquartered in Chantilly, Va., employs more than 900 people and has operations in all 50 states and 15 countries worldwide. It recently opened an office on St. Thomas, at 80 Kronprindsens Gade.
