June 12, 2004 – The Maternal Child Health & Children with Special Health Care Needs Program will conduct free workshops on St. Thomas and St. Croix.
The workshop will be held on St. Thomas on Friday, June 18, at Palms Court Harborview Hotel from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on St. Croix, the workshop will be held on Tuesday, June 22, at Gertrude's Restaurant from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Darlene Carty, department of health commissioner, in a release invited parents and guardians of adolescents with special health care needs, staff of advocacy agencies, training programs and other agencies or organizations that serve individuals with special health care needs to attend this workshop.
"The workshop will offer ways to increase awareness of transition issues for children and youth with special health care needs, their families and providers. Also on the agenda are strategies and practices that can assist young people and their families to successfully make the transition to adulthood, and learn ways to promote independence in health care," the commissioner said.
Interested persons and organizations are urged to register by Tuesday, June 15, because space is limited. To register call the program office at 776-3580 on St. Thomas and 773-1330 ext 243 or 244 on St. Croix There IN no cost to attend the workshop.
