Epiphany Production Relates the 60s to Now

June 8, 2004 – The Epiphany Theater will present four performances of "Kennedy's Children" at Pine Peace School June 26 through June 29.
"Kennedy's Children," was written by Robert Patrick. It was originally set in 1974 at a seedy East Village, New York bar, but local director Frank Bartolucci has advanced the time to 2004. The characters are the same as those in the 1974 version. They were then in their 20s and 30s, but now they are in their 50s and 60s.
"They are feeling no differently about things," said Carole DeSenne, who handles publicity for Epiphany Theater. They still have the same disappointments and the same lack of living up to expectations they experienced when they were younger.
Bartolucci said in a news release that he sees 2004 as an echo of the sixties, an era that spilled over into the 1970s. "Then we were in Viet Nam, today we are in Iraq," he said.
The play features Christine Cummings as Carla, Paul Devine as Sparger, Tim Jackson as Mark, Liza Mostsinsker as Rona, and Cynthia Smith as Wanda.
Sparger is an avant-garde unemployed actor searching for the next show. Mark is a psychotic Viet Nam vet seeking the meaning of war. Rona is a hippie activist looking for a cause. Carla is glamour girl wanting to be the next Marilyn Monroe. Wanda is a middle-class teacher wanting to live up to John F. Kennedy's aspirations.
The play was first performed on Broadway and in London in 1974. It won the Glasgow Citizens Theatre World Playwriting prize, the Show Business Best Play award and a Village Voice Obie nomination.
The St. John performances begin at 8 p.m. Tickets run $15 at the door.
