Dear Source,
I agree that the treatment and abuse of animals in the U.S. Virgin Islands are getting worse each day. These heinous crimes seem to be occurring at an alarming rate, yet I have not heard our legislation making this a major issue. The persons committing these crimes need to know that there are consequences, and our citizens that witness these crimes need to call the police! Even if a hotline is to be set up so that callers can remain anonymous. This kind of behavior needs to be dealth with. I am disappointed, however, with Mrs. Vincent's remarks that "The U.S. Virgin Islands are for the most part inhabited by scum that depend on welfare and food stamps while turning out children at an incredible pace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". Like many other places dealing with government corruption, low job opportunities and a high cost of living, the U.S. Virgin Islands is going downhill..fast. This can only be turned around! by the cooperation of the citizens and government who wants a better future for themselves, their islands and the children who are the future. To generalize an entire population based on some is wrong. I ask Mrs. Vincent, would you say the same thing about New York City? How about South Florida or Los Angeles? Mrs. Vincent has let her emotions smear her view of the people of the U.S. Virgin Islands as a whole.
I believe that the younger generation who have left and moved to the mainland should return and start their own businesses. Give the islands something is doesn't have so the people can stop depending on the government.
