It is unfortunate that the people of Virgin Islands have to carry the brunt of the disgrace associated with persons who inflict harm on helpless animals. Animal abuse is wrong and there should be increased legislation targeting these inhumane acts and sending a message to any and all who partake in animal cruelty.
However, Mrs. Vincent of AZ has gone too far in her outrage! The population of the US Virgin Islands is varied in its make-up, representing many cultures and creeds! Making blanket statements stating that ' the U.S. Virgin Islands are for the most part inhabited by scum that depend on welfare and food stamps while turning out children at an incredible pace' is doing a great injustice to the many individuals who are trying to educate and change the view of the US Virgin Islands. Don't be so quick to pass judgement, but use these incidents as catalysts to help change and or mold the future of the US Virgin Islands into a better place for all. Ms. Vincent, what have you done other than offer insults in your outrage to make the USVI a better island for all?
The US Virgin Islands is not the only place where such senseless cruelty exists. Just browse the cable channels for glimpses into the issues faced by many states. However, the mere fact that such stories populate the pages of our newspapers equates to changes in our society and steps towards
intolerance of such acts. Yes, I acknowledge that it is not enough, but if everyone channels their outrage positively, we can change this view of tolerance and acceptance into intolerance and nonacceptance with severe penalty for animal abuse.
