May 25, 2004 – The Citizens Coalition for Better Government, a civic organization, plans to initiate the celebration of friendship among residents Oct. 10 to 16. The goal of the coalition is "improving the quality of life for all."
A press release from the coalition states, "We propose to make it as big an affair as we all can make it. We could use the occasion for promoting the U.S. Virgin Islands in American countries where we have not promoted our destination before or lately. We could offer special packages to include air and hotel. We could prepare a special cultural presentation for the period in as many venues as feasible. The merchants could offer special discounts on special items for the occasion. Special mementos could be developed for sale and gifts. There are numerous activities that can be organized around this celebration so it could be profitable for all concerned."
