Cyclists Race the Clock in Final of Time Trial Series

May 16, 2004 – Under favorable weather conditions on Sunday morning 25 cyclists raced against the clock in the third and final race of the Spicy Grill Time Trial Series.
The Two-Person Time Trial in February, the East End Time Trial in April and the South Shore Time Trial in May made up the series of varying race distances. The cyclist with the lowest cumulative time after the three events was crowned the winner of the series. Danney Fontenelle finished more than 4 minutes ahead of Victor Cruz with a time of 2:59:21. Sue Brown, the only female to complete all three races, finished third in 3:04:23.
The South Shore Time Trial was dominated by some of the fastest cyclists in the Virgin Islands. Jamie Keys finished the 9.1-mile race in 20:47. Juancito Gario, president of the club Cycle 340, came in second with a time of 21:23. John Harper finished closely behind in 21:43.
The next race, Challenge the Beast, is scheduled for May 23.
