May 6, 2004 – Keeping up with what's been going on at the Legislature — or not — in the last couple of days has been no easy matter.
The legislative calendar issued on Monday listed:
– A meeting of the Rules Committee at 10 a.m. Wednesday on St. Thomas, to consider the governor's fiscal year 2004 supplemental budget.
– A meeting of the Economic Development, Agriculture and Consumer Protection Committee at 10 a.m. Thursday on St. Croix, to take testimony on the effectiveness of the the Public Services Commission's complaint procedures and processes.
– A meeting of the Government Operations Committee at 6 p.m. Thursday on St. Croix, to take testimony on Motor Vehicle Bureau operations and consideration of a bill to create a Department of Motor Vehicles.
On Wednesday it was announced that because of the funeral that day of Police Officer Cuthbert Chapman, the Rules Committee meeting instead would take place at 10 a.m. Thursday on St. Croix.
That meant postponement of the Economic Development, Agriculture and Consumer Protection Committee to a time to be announced.
On Thursday it was announced that the Government Operations Committee meeting had been postponed to a time to be announced.
As of Thursday night, the full Legislative session scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday on St. Thomas was still on. The agenda as published on Monday lists two items of business: consideration of a bill to honor Silvia Teresa Gibbs for her contributions to the V.I. community, and consideration of the governor's fiscal year 2004 supplemental budget.
