May 3, 2004 – The University of the Virgin Islands Bulletin Board issued today has these announcements:

May 3 is Deadline for Discount Ticket to Class of 2004 Spring Ball
The St. Thomas campus graduating class of 2004 will hold a spring ball – "A Night of Sheer Elegance" – at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at the Westin Hotel on St. John. The ball is sponsored by the class' social and cultural committee and the UVI Alumni Affairs Office. Tickets are $35 until May 3, and $40 thereafter. Tickets are available from graduating class members, the Student Affairs Office and from Dockside Books in Havensight Mall. For more information call 776-9200. Ext. 2672 or 693-1046.
STARFest on WTJX-TV Begins Today at 8 p.m.
The Virgin Islands' best singers and dancers will be featured in STARFest on WTJX Public Television beginning at 8 p.m. today (May 3). The program will feature highlights from recent STARFest programs. It is offered in collaboration with UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts.
STARFest 10 Tickets Going Fast; Anniversary T-Shirts Offered With Purchase
Tickets are going fast for the Reichhold Center's upcoming STARFest 10, according to Reichhold business manager Pamela Sanes. She encouraged fans to purchase tickets as soon as possible to make sure they get preferred seating. Sanes also announced that — while supplies last — each person who purchases a STARFest ticket at the Reichhold box office will receive a free STARfest 10th Anniversary T-shirt. STARFest, often referred to as "The Virgin Islands' Best Show," returns to the stage on May 8 and 9 with 8 p.m. shows that Director David Edgecombe promises will have "more pizzazz than ever before." UVI's Cooperative Extension Service Offering Free Nutrition Classes
UVI's Cooperative Extension Service is offering a free, six-week Foods and Nutrition Short Course to run from today, May 3, through June 10. The course is part of the Expanded Foods and Nutrition Education Program of the CES's Family and Consumer Sciences area. Classes are scheduled from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They are held in Room 134 of the UVI Research and Extension Center. St. Croix Golden Key Induction Set for May 4; Dr. Kean is Featured Speaker
The UVI St. Thomas and St. Croix campus chapters of the Golden Key International Honor Society are celebrating their 10th anniversaries this year. An induction ceremony and dinner for the St. Croix campus chapter will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, at the Carambola Beach Resort. Former UVI President Dr. Orville Kean will be the keynote speaker. Individuals who wish to attend must RSVP by calling 692-4187. Dinner is $30. Fourteen new members are scheduled to be inducted.
Seventeen students were inducted into St. Thomas campus Golden Key chapter on April 4.
UVI to Administer ASE Exam on St. Thomas Campus
UVI will administer the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence exam on the St. Thomas campus on May 4, 6 and 11. Exams will be conducted each day at 6:30 p.m. in the Freshman Center, Suite 118 of the Classroom Administration Building. For more information call 693-1152.
St. Thomas Campus Academic Awards Program Set for May 6
The 2004 Academic Awards program on UVI's St. Thomas campus is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, at the Sports and Fitness Center. The program will honor top students in each grade level and include the presentation of major scholarships. A reception will follow. For more information contact Associate Chancellor Dr. Doris Battiste at 693-1121.
UVI Spring 2004 Semester Classes to End Sunday, May 9
The last day of UVI classes for the Spring 2004 semester is Sunday, May 9. Final exams are scheduled for Monday, May 10, through Sunday, May 16.
English Skills Final Exam – ENG100/WAC011 – Set May 10 on St. Thomas
The final English Skills Exam for students enrolled in ENG100 and WAC011 on the St. Thomas campus is scheduled for 8 to 10 a.m. on Monday, May 10. It will be held in Room 222 of the Sports and Fitness Center.
UVI-CELL to Confer Certificates on 150 Trainees
The UVI Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning Center will confer certificates of completion upon approximately 150 recent program participants during ceremonies scheduled on Saturday, May 8, on St. Thomas and on Friday, May 14, on St. Croix.
Approximately 80 individuals will receive certificates on St. Thomas. The ceremony is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, in the UVI Sports & Fitness Center.
Approximately 70 individuals will be awarded certificates on St. Croix. The ceremony is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Cafetorium on UVI's St. Croix campus.
Recipients completed requirements in the following courses of study: International Computer's Driver's License, Essentials of Business Writing, Sharpening Your Writing Edge, Legal Assistant's Certification Exam Review, Real Estate Salesperson's Course, Real Estate Appraisers and Brokers Course, AutoCAD 2002, Occupational Safety and Health Administration 511, Basic Computer Graphics, and the Certified Public Accountant Review. The ceremonies are open to certificate recipients and their families. For more information call 693-1109.
UVI Spring Concert Set for May 8 at Charlotte Amalie High School
The UVI Music Area will present its annual Spring Concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at the Charlotte Amalie High School auditorium. The concert is titled "An Evening at the Opera and Broadway." It will feature familiar tunes like the "Habanera" and "Summertime." Well-known songs from Broadway's "Phantom of the Opera," "Cats," and "Pocahontas" will also be performed. The UVI Concert Choir, St. Thomas Community Voice Students and the UVI Concert Band will also be featured. Tickets — $10 for adults and $5 for students — are available at the UVI Bookstore and Humanities Division, Krystal and Gifts Galore in Tutu Park Mall and Dockside Bookshop at Havensight Mall.
UVI Registration for Fall 2004 Continuing Through Sunday, May 9
UVI on-line registration for continuing students for the Fall 2004 semester is continuing through Sunday, May 9. Returning UVI students can register via the Internet using personal identification numbers that are provided by faculty advisers. They can access registration forms by logging on to banweb.uvi.edu. Students who need a PIN should contact their advisers. Individuals experiencing difficulties with online registration should contact the Registrar's Office at 693-1160 on St. Thomas or the Academic Services Office at 692-4158 on St. Croix.
St. Thomas Students Advised on Mailbox Key Return Policies
The Student Affairs Office on UVI's St. Thomas campus has announced that Monday, May 17, is the deadline to return mailbox keys. Student summer mail can be picked up from the Student Activities Office when summer classes are in session. Students not returning for the fall semester are reminded to leave self-addressed labels to allow mail forwarding to U.S. addresses. Students should also begin notifying mail senders of their change of address, including the effective date. Call 693-1111 for more information.
Upward Bound Slates Youth Role Model Luncheon on May 16
The Parents Association of UVI's Upward Bound college preparation program on the St. Thomas campus will host the 14th Annual Youth Role Model Luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, May 16, at the Wyndham Sugar Bay Beach Resort. Youth role model honorees are: Keli Chongasing of All Saints School, Cara Lee Williams of Antilles School, Jevauhn Jones of Charlotte Amalie High School, Shatel Francis of Ivanna Eudora Kean High School, J
amie Steffens of Sts. Peter and Paul High School, Keridon Williams of Seventh-Day Adventist School, Kharina John of Wesleyan Academy and Angela Gumbs of the Upward Bound Program. Tickets are $35 and are available from honorees and at the Upward Bound office, room 100 H of the Classroom Administration Building, on UVI's St. Thomas campus.
