April 21, 2004 – Twelve seniors in the University of the Virgin Islands four-year nursing program exhibited their leadership projects for the public on Monday and Tuesday in the Roy L. Schneider Hospital lobby on St. Thomas.
Posters displayed their work, and the nursing students were on hand to discuss their projects and answer questions.
Christine Lauterborn set up a display promoting the Web site she created to inform Virgin Islanders about diseases that affect many in the community. Her V.I. Health Advisor site provides information about diabetes, high blood pressure, HIV and obesity, along with a directory of public and private health agencies in the territory.
"I hope this Web site will actualize my vision of empowering people in their quest for better health by providing accurate information and resources about pertinent health-care issues in the Virgin Islands," Lauterborn states on her site.
The idea for the project came easily to Lauterborn "because I have professional experience with Web sites." She added that from a nursing perspective she created the site as a tool for reaching out to people in the community with information on diseases that affect them and their loved ones. "It's a bit unique in this respect," she said.

– Catherine Lake — "Turning the Wheel to Prevent Decubitus Ulcers."
– Juli Matthew — "Safety Away from Home: A Pediatric Emergency Manual for Daycare Workers."
– Wendy Stevens — "Simple Steps: A Curriculum for Certified Nursing Assistant to Patient Care Assistant."
– Carmen Vanterpool — "Department of Health Assessment Tool."
– Wilbert Wilson — "P.O.W.E.R — Police Officers Who Envision Respecting Everyone's Rights."
