April 19, 2004 – The UVI Bulletin Board issued today has these announcements:
UVI Registration for Fall 2004 Extended through Sunday, May 9
The University of the Virgin Islands has announced that on-line registration for continuing students for the Fall 2004 semester has been extended through May 9. Returning UVI students register via the Internet using personal identification numbers (PINs) that are provided by faculty advisors. They access registration forms by logging on to: http://banweb.uvi.edu. Students who need personal identification numbers should contact their advisors. Individuals experiencing difficulties with on-line registration should contact the Registrar's Office at 693-1160 on St. Thomas or the Academic Services Office at 692-4158 on St. Croix.
UVI Little Theatre Offers Spring Production April 16-19
The UVI Little Theatre's spring production "The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail" – which played to a packed house on Friday and Saturday evenings and a sizable crowd on Sunday – concludes its four day run with the final performance at 8 p.m. tonight (Monday, April 19). Written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, the play offers a historical yet believably current look at the night Thoreau was thrown in jail in 1846 for non-payment of taxes. The play will feature members of the community and UVI students. Tickets – $12 for adults, $6 for students – are available at Dockside Bookstore, the UVI Bookstore, UVI's Humanities Division and Nisky Pharmacy. Call 693-1354 for details. The UVI Little Theatre is located in the Classroom Administration Building on the St. Thomas campus.
Human Resources Office Sets Office Hours for Tuesday, April 20, on St. Croix
Desserie Smith, Human Resources Specialist for Employee Benefits, will visit the St. Croix Campus on Tuesday, April 20, to conduct office hours. Individuals who wish to schedule an appointment should call extension 1426. Office hours will be from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Room 801A on the main campus.
Family Life Students Scheduled in Steel Band Jamboree, Children's Parade
Students enrolled in UVI's Family Life Center program will be participating in the Steel Band Jamboree and the Children's Parade of St. Thomas' 2004 Carnival. The Steel Band Jamboree is set for 8 p.m. Friday, April 23, in Lionel Roberts Stadium and the Children's Parade is set for 10 a.m. on Friday, April 30, beginning at Market Square. Members of the UVI community are invited to attend the events to support the students.
UVI Carnival Troupe Practice Continuing
Practice sessions for UVI's 2004 Carnival Troupe continue each Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 5 p.m. at the Dining Pavilion on the St. Thomas Campus. Individuals interested in participating can visit a practice or get more information on the UVI Carnival Troupe Web page on the UVI home page at www.uvi.edu.
St. Croix Campus Student Awards Program for April 24
The 30th Annual Student Awards program on the St. Croix campus is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, in the Cafetorium. The program will recognize academic achievement, scholarship, service and student leadership. This is a formal event and heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served. For more information contact Associate Chancellor Claude Steele at 692-4181.
Free Web Design Clinic Offered April 21 on St. Thomas, St. Croix
A free Web Design Clinic for individuals from service organizations will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, at UVI. The clinic is free and sponsored jointly by the V.I. Housing Authority and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. It will cover design web sites and offer guidelines for accessibility, marketing and obtaining technical support. Sessions will be videoconferenced between Teacher Education room 101 on the St. Thomas campus and Evans Center room 713 on the St. Croix campus. Remaining space is limited. Interested individuals should call 693-1106 or send e-mail to crichar2@uvi.edu to reserve space and to register.

St. Thomas Campus Academic Awards Program Set for May 6
The 2004 Academic Awards program on UVI's St. Thomas campus is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, at the Sports and Fitness Center. The program will honor top students in each grade level and include the presentation of major scholarships. A reception will follow. For more information contact Associate Chancellor Dr. Doris Battiste at 693-1121.
UVI Nursing Students to Display Posters at Tutu Park Mall on April 28
UVI Bachelor of Nursing Science students will present a poster display on injury prevention among children in the center court of the Tutu Park Mall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28. The goal of this project is to expand knowledge of injury prevention while promoting preventative health as an essential component of childcare. Posters will be displayed on a wide range of topics including stranger danger, sun safety, safety around animals, choking prevention, first aid and car seat safety. For details contact UVI Nursing Professor Dr. Doris W. Campbell at 693-1295.
Golden Key Induction Ceremony Set for May 4 on St. Croix
The UVI St. Thomas and St. Croix campus chapters of the Golden Key International Honor Society are celebrating their 10th anniversaries this year. An induction ceremony and dinner for the St. Croix campus chapter will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4, at the Carambola Beach Resort. Fifteen new members are scheduled to be inducted. Everyone who plans to attend the induction and dinner must RSVP by April 23 to Chapter Advisor Miriam Osborne-Elliott at 692-4187. To become a member of the society students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.3. Seventeen students were inducted into St. Thomas campus Golden Key chapter on April 4.
Mathematics Skills Exams Set May 7 on St. Thomas
The final exam for students taking Mathematics Skills classes on the St. Thomas campus is scheduled for 3 to 5 p.m. on May 7. The exam will be offered in the CA Building. For more information call 693-1253. The final exam schedule for St. Croix campus students will be announced when it becomes available.
Starfest to Feature 10th Show and Spin Off into Television Series
Starfest – "The Virgin Islands' Best Show" – returns to center stage at UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts with shows at 8 p.m. on May 8 and 9. Noting that this will be Starfest's 10th anniversary, Reichhold Director David Edgecombe promises "a really exciting show with more pizzazz than ever before."
