Senator Celestino A. White, Sr., has written to Mr. Clifford Graham, Executive Director of the Virgin Islands Housing Finance Authority (VIHFA), requesting that he negotiate with the HUD Receiver, Ms. Donna Ayala to have 34.6 acres at Estate Bordeaux that was deeded to VIHA revert to VIHFA or exchanged for the former Donoe Development or Warren E. Brown Apartments site.
According to Senator White, the Bordeaux property was granted and conveyed to VIHA on July 28, 1995, with the understanding that VIHA would build affordable housing units to replace the demolished Donoe Housing Community. "Now, some nine years later," said Senator White, "not one ounce of dirt for home construction at Estate Bordeaux has started."
"Since VIHA has decided to move forward with the Hoffman/Nullyberg project as a replacement for Donoe, I believe it is only reasonable and proper that the land at Estate Bordeaux be deeded back VIHFA for inclusion as farm land under the Department of Agriculture," concluded Senator White.
