AD CLUB AWARDS TO BE PART OF NATIONAL JUDGING

April 10, 2004 – The Advertising Club of the Virgin Islands is expanding its annual ADVI awards competition to make it the entry level of participation in the American Advertising Federation's 4th District and national ADDY awards judging.
A proposal submitted by the Ad Club's board of directors and accepted by the 4th District AAF "will allow us to participate for a small initial fee" in the regional and national competitions, Maura Curley, Ad Club president, said in a letter to members.
Thus, the ADVI awards will become the V.I. ADDY awards.
The local judging will be shifted to a different time of year to conform to the competition schedule of the other AAF 220 clubs, she said. The call for entries from now on will be in December, rather than in May, and the local awards gala will be in February instead of July.
For this transition period, projects from May 15, 2003, through Dec. 31, 2004, will be eligible for the next ADDY awards. After that, the eligibility period will be the calendar year from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31.
"For 22 years we've conducted an annual awards competition, but separately from the American Advertising Federation," Curley said. "Now we will be in sync."
In addition to increased exposure for the V.I. advertising community, she said, the Ad Club will be able to utilize the ADDY Web site for electronic entries and to "experience the benefits of national ADDY branding."
