April 3, 2004 – St. Thomas resident Theodore Dorsett is one of five recipients of this year's Alumni Scholarships awarded by the University of New Haven in Connecticut.
Dorsett, a 1998 graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School, is a business management major at UNH and is expecting to graduate in May.
Asked to describe his plans following graduation, Dorsett said, "I plan to get involved with real estate and investments and eventually go back home to the Virgin Islands to help create and improve opportunities for the people there."
The Alumni Scholarships are funded by money raised each spring at the annual Alumni Scholarship Ball. This year's event, "Real Life Learning – Real Life Leaders," will be held at the Omni Hotel in New Haven on April 24.
In addition to generating money for scholarship awards, this black-tie fund-raiser honors all scholarship recipients and distinguished alumni. This year's event also will pay special tribute to University President Larry DeNardis, who will end his 13 years in the office by being named President Emeritus.
Dorsett is the son of Theodore Dorsett Sr. and Lorna Dorsett of St. Thomas.
About 4,500 students from 30 states and 70 countries are enrolled at the University of New Haven, which offers 80 undergraduate and 30 graduate programs. More than 90 percent of UNH graduates are employed within three months of commencement.
