Navy Seaman Apprentice Kelvin Davis / St. Croix
April 27, 2004 (Fleet Hometown News) – Navy Seaman Apprentice Kelvin B. Davis, son of Edith Gereau of Christiansted, recently graduated from the Basic Enlisted Submarine Course at Naval Submarine School in Groton, Conn.
During the six-week course, Davis learned the basic theory, construction, and operation of nuclear-powered submarines. Davis also learned shipboard organization, damage control, and submarine safety and escape procedures.
Davis participated in hands-on training with reality simulators, and practiced firefighting and flood control on board a submarine. Davis also learned about a submarine's basic hydraulic, water and air systems, and practiced escaping from a simulated sinking submarine.
Army Pvt. Jeremy Henry / St. Croix
April 26, 2004 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Army Pvt. Jeremy O. Henry has arrived at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Md., to complete the track vehicle repairer advanced individual training course.
The son of Veronica and Ivan O. Henry of Williams Delight, Frederiksted, he is a 2003 graduate of St. Croix Educational Complex Vocational School.
The student will be trained to troubleshoot, repair and maintain mechanical, electrical, air, fuel, brake, steering, transmission assemblies, hydraulic systems, and fire extinguisher and suppression assemblies on tracked vehicles. Also, he will learn to repair gas turbine power and diesel power plants and packs, including compression ignition engine fuel and liquid cooling systems.
Navy Airman Shaeme S. Ramos / St. Croix
April 23, 2004 (Fleet News) – Navy Airman Shaeme S. Ramos, son of Marjorie F. Ramos of Christiansted, recently participated in Operation Vigilant Resolve, while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, homeported in Norfolk, Va.
During the operation, Strike Fighter Squadron 131 and Carrier Air Wing Seven launched F/A-18 Hornets from Ramos' ship and conducted a 20-mm strafing run against an enemy position and dropped two 500-pound laser guided bombs on another enemy position in Fallujah, Iraq. This was the first live ordnance dropped by CVW-7 aircraft since Washington deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Carriers like USS George Washington are deployed throughout the world to maintain U.S. presence and provide rapid response in times of crisis. They serve as a highly visible deterrent to would-be aggressors, and are equipped with the most versatile and powerful weapons and aircraft available.
Ramos, a 2001 graduate of St. Croix Central High School, joined the Navy in December 2002.
Army Pvt. John Nicholas / St. Croix
April 22, 2004 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Army Pvt. John A. Nicholas, son of Stella Vigilant of Grove Place, St. Croix, and John Nicholas of Lawton, Okla., has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
The soldier is a 2003 graduate of Lawton Senior High School, Okla.
Army National Guard Pvt. Jeanelle Turnbull / St. ThomasApril 19, 2004 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Army National Guard Pvt. Jeanelle Y. Turnbull has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
A 2003 graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School, Turnbull is the daughter of Germaine Kuntz of St. Thomas.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the same topics as described in detail in the posting above.

A 2003 graduate of St. Croix Educational Complex, Henry is the son of Veronica and Ivan Henry of Williams Delight, Frederiksted.

Army National Guard Pfc. Irwin Leonard / St. Thomas
April 19, 2004 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Army National Guard Pfc. Irwin J. Leonard has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
A 1997 graduate of Ivanna Eudora Kean High School, Leonard is the son of Olive Leonard of Annas Retreat, Saint Thomas, and the brother of Donovan Scharmen of Pembroke Pines, Fla.

Army National Guard Spec. Kimberlee Penha / St. Thomas
April 19, 2004 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Army National Guard Spec. Kimberlee M. Penha has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
Penha, the daughter of Rita Farley, and Demetri Penha, both of St. Thomas, graduated in 1990 from Charlotte Amalie High School. She received a bachelor's degree in 2000 from Alabama State University, Montgomery.

Army Sgt. Daphne Chambers / St. Croix
April 1, 2004 (Army & Air Force News) – Army Sgt. Daphne Chambers has arrived for duty at the Military Entrance Processing Station in Tampa, Fla.
Chambers is a processing sergeant with 15 years of military service.
She is the daughter of Jean B. McFarlande of Frederiksted, and sister of Winsbut McFarlande of Kingshill, both of the Virgin Islands. Her husband, Larry, is the son of Bobby Marble of Roanoke, Ala.
The sergeant graduated in 1984 from St. Croix Central High School and received a bachelor's degree in 1988 from Jones College, Jacksonville, Fla.
Army Pvt. Garth R. Bacchus / St. Croix
April 1, 2004 – (Army & Air Force News) – Army Pvt. Garth R. Bacchus has graduated from the automated logistical specialist advanced individual training course at Fort Lee, Petersburg, Va.
The soldier was trained to establish and maintain stock records and other documents such as inventory, materiel control, accounting and support reports, automated and manual accounting records; review and verify bills of lading, contracts, and purchase orders; repair and construct shipping crates for equipment and supplies; and perform prescribed loads and shop stock lists in manual and automated supply applications.
Bacchus is the son of Selma V. Yorke of Stoney Ground, Christiansted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands.
He is a 2003 graduate of Central High School, Christiansted.
Navy Seaman Brian N. McCarthy / St. Croix
April 1, 2004 (Fleet News) – Navy Seaman Brian N. McCarthy, son of Judy Clarke of Christiansted, and fellow Sailors and Marines assigned to the amphibious command ship USS Blue Ridge, recently returned to their forward deployed operating base, Yokosuka, Japan, after seven weeks at sea.
While at sea McCarthy's ship conducted military-to-military exercises with several countries in the region while visiting several ports, including ports in Malaysia, T
hailand, the Philippines and Okinawa.
McCarthy's ship serves as the Seventh Fleet command ship with a
crew of more than 800 Sailors. The ship is tasked with defending and protecting the territory, citizens, commerce, sea lanes, allies and other vital interests of the United States.
McCarthy joined the Navy in September 2000.
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Terrance W. Ritter / St. Croix
April 01, 2004 (Fleet News) – Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Terrance W. Ritter, son of Bernice and Monroe Clendenen of Christiansted, and fellow Sailors and Marines assigned to the amphibious command ship USS Blue Ridge, recently returned to their forward deployed operating base, Yokosuka, Japan, after seven weeks at sea.
While at sea Ritter's ship conducted military-to-military exercises with several countries in the region while visiting several ports, including ports in Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Okinawa.
