March 30, 2004 – In a press release Wednesday, Communication Technologies Inc. (COMTek) announced that the company has received the prestigious Nunn-Perry Award from the Department of Defense. COMTek's CEO and founder, Joseph Fergus, is a former St. Croix resident raised in the Kingshill projects.
The Nunn-Perry Awards recognize and highlight outstanding and successful mentor-protégé relationships. Created by former Sen. Sam Nunn and implemented by former Defense Secretary William Perry, the Department of Defense-sponsored Mentor-Protégé Program encourages larger companies to mentor smaller firms and minority-owned businesses in order to become valued defense suppliers.
Fergus, COMTek's founder and CEO, stated: "We are extremely pleased to be recognized for our pivotal accomplishments. This year COMTek has experienced significant growth in all areas of the company including revenues, operations, and the number of employees. Fortifying our strategic relationship with IBM has been a focal point for our growth strategy, both in the short and long haul."
