March 24, 2004 – The Labor Department wants your input on its Program Year 2004 State Senior Employment Services Coordination Plan.
"Each state had to do a five-year strategic plan," Labor Department spokeswoman Janelle Gumbs said.
The department must submit its plan to the U.S. Labor Department's Older Workers Division by April 1.
The department is looking for input from public and private nonprofit agencies and organizations that provide employment services to people 55 and over.
Additionally, Gumbs says the department is also soliciting input from the Workforce Investment Board, community-based organizations and social service agencies that provide services to older people, business and labor organizations, and other interested organizations and people.
Since many of these organizations come under the Human Services Department umbrella, the Labor Department is working with Human Services to develop the plan.
Gumbs said the plan is part of the Workforce Investment Act, which covers workers in numerous categories including seniors.
