FOOD MAKERS, TAKERS AT UVI'S AFTERNOON ON GREEN

March 11, 2004 – There'll be cooks and tasters at Sunday's Afternoon on the Green, the University of the Virgin Islands' top food, family and fun event.
The theme for this year's event is "Cuisines Galore for 2004," and the UVI event committee has planned for this year's 15th anniversary to be extra special. It will be held from noon to 5 p.m. on the Herman E. Moore Golf Course.
As usual, Afternoon on the Green will feature food prepared by people of the community. Samples will be sold by the university to raise funds. It is the perfect opportunity for the community's extra-special cooks to share their best dishes — but probably not their recipe secrets! — with everyone. Food is entered and judged in the these categories: pastries/ sweets, breads, soups, side dishes, main dishes/ meats/poultry, vegetables/ casseroles, seafood and drinks.
The committee will still accept promises of prepared dishes and last-minute entries may be made by calling 693-1040.
There will be much more than food, although some of the other events have a food theme: Peas Soup band, made up of UVI students, will make their public debut at the event, and there'll be a homemade ice cream demonstration.
Also up for entertainment are music by Westline Productions, an expanded kids' corner with an array of activities for children, and a display from each of UVI's academic divisions. UVI's recruitment office will be on hand to accept admission applications and discuss student opportunities at UVI.
To contribute a cooked dish or for more information call UVI's institutional advancement office at 693-1040.
