PAMELA RICHARDS' STATEMENTS ARE APPALLING

Dear Source:
I am appalled. After reading the statements made by Commissioner Pamela Richards regarding" STX needs to stop depending on tourism", Thursday March the 4th, I realized that we don’t need a Tourism commissioner. After all, if it is unnecessary to depend on Tourism , why have a Department?
Is it simply gross ignorance in the way business is conducted , or does the commissioner believe that only if tourism was doing well would we need a commission. The job of the commission is to attract and put in place incentives both for tourists and tour operators to attract visitors to this arguably most beautiful island in the Caribbean.
It is not the job of the commissioner to find excuses for non performance. If we are doing something wrong commissioner, fight to get the situation rectified. Find a way to involve all the interested parties in a plan to enhance and evolve the industry to perform for our local benefit. No one benefits form the castigations and negative attitudes you profess. Let us unite and put St Croix on the map. Let us preach to ST Thomians and St Johnians that it is not in their best interest to denigrate St Croix. We are one Island chain and should be complimentary to each other.
Every community in the world appreciates and tries to attract as much tourism as possible. We are no different . Let us put in place someone who understands and is motivated to bring the world to our doorsteps. Let us not leave someone in place who continues to look inward and try to justify their own lack of adequate performance.
Respectfully,
