March 4, 2004 – Employers who have not yet sent in their job vacancy survey forms must do so by March 19.
Labor Department spokesman Janelle Gumbs said in a release issued Wednesday that a notice went out several weeks ago, but some employers are dragging their feet in getting this important tool back to the department.
"Lots of grants are based on that type of information," she said.
The information will help employers, job seekers, educators, government planners, policy makers, legislators, and members of the community understand the unique labor and specific training needs of the Virgin Islands, the release said. It will also help the Labor Department and its partners, the University of the Virgin Islands Workforce Advisory and the Human Resources Investment Council to develop specific vocational and academic courses.
Statistical analysis can provide details on vacancies, wages, benefits, education, and experience required for various full and part-time jobs.
Gumbs said the survey went to employers who pay into the unemployment compensation program. That accounts for about 97 percent of the employers in the territory.
