Feb. 27, 2004 – Anyone who is a stakeholder in the territory's public education system is encouraged to attend a meeting of the Senate Education and Youth Committee at 4 p.m. Monday on St. Thomas, the panel's chair, Sen. Ronald Russell, said on Friday.
"I would like everyone who is affected by education in the territory to feel free to come and voice your opinion," he said in a release.
On the agenda for the hearing are:
– Updates from the Board of Education on delinquent school loans, scholarship and loan programs, high school graduation requirements, the general equivalency diploma (GED) program and the criteria for the 100 hours of community service required of high school students for graduation.
– Status reports from Education Department officials on school repairs, Impress Fund finances, casino revenue funds, security equipment and Community Development Block Grant funding.
With the after-school starting time of the hearing, Russell said, he hopes to see union representatives, teachers, administrators, parents and students "be an active part of the meeting."
