In celebration of Rotary International’s World Peace and Understanding Month, the Rotary Club of St. Croix and the Interact Club of Good Hope School will host the second annual roundtable, "The Peace Table, A Roundtable Discussion on Peace and Fellowship for Our Time, Our Community."
According to Rotary Club President David Beck, "Last year’s Roundtable was a great success; the discussion was enlightened and stimulating, and the panelists and audience were engaged and inspired. We want to build on the first Roundtable and develop concrete actions to cultivate peace and fellowship on St. Croix and the Virgin Islands."
The panel will consist of representatives from St. Croix’s four Rotary Clubs, The Interact & Rotaract Clubs, high schools and cultural groups.
This year the Rotary Club has chosen to focus the discussion on Rotary’s Four Way Test and how everyone can use the principles of the test to foster peace and fellowship. The Four Way Test:
"Of the things we think, say or do:
Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
The Four Way Test was created in 1932 by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor (who later served as Rotary International president) when he was asked to take charge of a company that was facing bankruptcy. This 24-word test for employees to follow in their business and professional lives became the guide for sales, production, advertising, and all relations with dealers and customers, and the survival of the company is credited to this simple philosophy.
Adopted by Rotary in 1943, the Four-Way Test has been translated into more than a hundred languages and published in thousands of ways; and while originally created to promote business ethics, it now serves as the cornerstone for personal ethics for more than one million Rotarians.
