SEABORNE LAUNCHING 'ROAD TOWN CONNECTION'

Feb. 19, 2004 – On Monday, Seaborne Airlines and the Road Town Fast Ferry operated by Caribbean Maritime Excursions Inc. will inaugurate the Road Town Connection, a package that will allow travel between St. Croix and Tortola in a little over two hours with a short connection on St. Thomas — for $150 round trip.
According to Omer ErSelcuk, Seaborne chief marketing officer, "If you want to go to Tortola from St. Croix, you currently have to pay well over $200, connect out of the way in San Juan, and spend hours dealing with big airport hassles. Once our customers try the Road Town Connection, they'll never go back to the old way again."
The package involves travel by seaplane between St. Croix and St. Thomas and by fast ferry between St. Thomas and Tortola. The "St. Thomas connection" is quick and easy because the Seaborne ramp and terminal are located adjacent to the Edward Blyden Marine Terminal where the fast ferry docks on the Charlotte Amalie waterfront. Check-in and connections will be easy with all boarding passes issued at the Seaborne point of departure.
ErSelcuk said the initiative builds on the airline's successful Super Sea & Sky package with the Virgin Islands Fast Ferry to provide round-trip service between St. Croix and St. Thomas — one way by air, the other by sea. Like the Super Sea & Sky package round-trip reservations must be made in advance.
With the new Road Town Connection, he said, "our partner, the high-speed Road Town Fast Ferry, will whisk you right into downtown Road Town in only 50 minutes" from St. Thomas.
Approximate departure times from St. Croix are 7:15 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and 3 p.m., with arrival in Tortola, respectively, at 9:20 a.m., 12:50 p.m., and 4:50 p.m..
Return trips leave Tortola at 7 a.m., 10 a.m., and 2:30 p.m., arriving back on St. Croix at 8:55 a.m., 12:25 p.m., and 4:10 p.m.
"Beginning sometime in March, we plan to extend the convenience of the Road Town Connection to our Old San Juan customers," too, Er Selcuk said.
For reservations and further information, speak with a Seaborne agent at 773-6442 or toll-free from the U.S. and British Virgin Islands at (888) FLY-TOUR. Reservations are taken from 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily. Additional information can be found at the Seaborne Airlines Web site, where reservations on seaplane flights only also may be made.
Seaborne employs more than 125 Virgin Islanders and carries approximately 175,000 passengers per year. Governed by the same regulations as the major U.S. carriers, it operates a fleet of twin-engine, twin-pilot, air-conditioned aircraft accommodating 17 passengers.
