Updated UVI Admissions Forms Available On-line
Updated versions of the UVI admissions forms and instructions are now available on-line, accessible via the Admissions link on the UVI Home page – www.uvi.edu. Instructions are included for transfer, international, graduate and undergraduate applicants. Interested applicants can print and mail or fax (340-693-1227/1167 on St. Thomas; 340-692-4115 on St. Croix) their applications to the Admissions Office for review. Effective Spring 2004, the application fee is $25. Both the 2003-2004 Undergraduate and 2003-2004 Graduate Bulletins are also available from direct links on the UVI Home page as well as from the Academics link page.
First dateline:UVI for 2004 Now Available On-line
The first issue of dateline:UVI for 2004 has been distributed. It is also available on-line with a link available on the UVI Home page – www.uvi.edu. dateline:UVI is a monthly newsletter designed to inform the University and related communities about current events, program developments and campus activities.
Cooperative Extension Service Offers Workshop on Septic System Maintenance
The UVI Cooperative Extension Service (CES) will offer a free workshop on understanding septic systems from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3, at the St. Ursula's Church Community Center in Contant. The session, which is part of the CES Virgin Islands Home and Farm Water Quality Protection (VI*A*Syst) Program, will cover issues such as maintaining septic systems on steep slopes and in shallow, stony or clayey soils. ID Card Procedure for Faculty and Staff on St. Thomas Campus
The UVI Human Resources Office has announced that UVI faculty and staff on the St. Thomas campus who need photo identification cards should – beginning Wednesday, February 4 – contact the Human Resources Office at 693-1410 in order to obtain the necessary transmittal form. After forms are obtained, photos can be taken at the UVI Media Center located in the lower level of the Teacher Education Building on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. For details, or to make an appointment, call the Media Center at 693-1181 or 693-1182.
UVI Staff Council to Hold Next Meeting on Tuesday, February 10
The next meeting of the UVI Staff Council is scheduled for noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10. The meeting will be videoconferenced between Chase Auditorium (Business Education room 110) on the St. Thomas campus and the Theater (Evans Center room 401) on the St. Croix campus.
United Way Representatives to Visit St. Thomas Campus on February 6
United Way Representatives will visit UVI's St. Thomas campus seeking support from members of the University community on Friday, February 6. Volunteers will be available to share information about the agency's activities from 10 to 11 a.m in Teacher Education room 101. Refreshments will be served.
STARfest 10 Application Deadline is February 6
Friday, February 6, is the application deadline for individuals interested in participating in STARfest 10. STARfest, a variety-styled show, has a reputation of being "the Virgin Islands' best show." Seasoned performers as well as those with "undiscovered" talent are encouraged to apply. STARfest will be held on May 8 and 9 at the Reichhold Center for the Arts on the St. Thomas campus of the University of the Virgin Islands. Financial Aid Awareness Week Set on UVI's St. Croix Campus
The Financial Aid Office of UVI's St. Croix campus will conduct a Financial Aid Awareness Week focusing on providing information and assistance to high school students planning to attend UVI. Sessions are planned as follows:
Tuesday, February 3 – Promoting the Financial Aid Office on Campus from 2 to 6 p.m. on the UVI Library Terrace.
Wednesday, February 4 – Financial Aid Seminar: "How to Pay for College" for Junior and Senior High School Students – from 6 to 8 p.m. at the UVI Student Center.
Thursday, February 5 – Financial Aid Workshop for 2004-2005 School Year: Financial Aid Application (FAFSA) and Renewal Application Process from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Theater (Evans Center room 401).
Nominations Sought for Student Employee of the Year on St. Croix
The Counseling and Placement Office and the Student Employee of the Year Committee on UVI's St. Croix campus have announced that nominations are being accepted for the first annual Student Employee of the Year Award. The 2004 award is designed to recognize the vital role student employment plays in the overall educational experience and the important contributions made by all student employees. The Student Employee of the Year Award seeks to acknowledge the student whose performance is exceptional. St. Croix campus supervisors are asked to submit their nominations no later than Monday, February 9. For details, call extension 4180. American Sign Language Class Being Planned on St. Thomas
UVI's Virgin Islands University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (VIUCEDD) is planning to offer an American Sign Language Level 1 class on UVI's St. Thomas campus. The VIUCEDD is seeking feedback from interested persons to determine scheduling of the course. This enrichment class – not for academic credit – is open to anyone interested in learning sign language. The cost will be $125 per semester. Stephanie Brown will be the instructor. SBDC Schedules Two Tax Related Seminars on St. Croix
It's tax time again and UVI's Small Business Development Center (SBDC) on St. Croix has scheduled two related seminars for early February. A seminar titled "It's Tax Time Again: Guidance for Filing Your Taxes" is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, at the SBDC's Training Center at the Sunshine Mall. Admission is $20. A $5 is offerec to those who pre-register. Admission is free for UVI employees and students. A second seminar – titled "Your Credit Report: Checking Your Record and Keeping it Straight!" – is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, at the SBDC's Training Center at the Sunshine Mall. Admission is $15 for those who pre-register before February 6, and $20 after that time. Admission is free for UVI employees and students. Refreshments will be served. SBDC Plans Seminar on Identity Theft, Security Issues
UVI's Small Business Development Center (SBDC) on St. Thomas will conduct a seminar on identity theft and other personal security concerns from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, at the UVI-SBDC Training Facility at Nisky Center.
