September 9, 2003 – The St. Thomas/St. John Golf Association will holds its first annual Ryder Cup Tournament, September 20 and 21, at the Mahogany Run golf course.
The Ryder Cup format is used by the U.S. Golf Association in international competition where teams are positioned against each other in match play.
For the ST/SJGA’s first Ryder Cup Tournament, the first 64 pre-paid golfers with established handicaps to sign up will be divided into four teams as per USGA match play rules.
Saturday’s format will be a two-man best-ball scramble, and on Sunday, players from the previous day’s two winning teams will square-off against each other in traditional singles competition.
The weekend’s competition will culminate in a Sunday evening banquet where prizes will be given to members of the team with the most points.
The tournament fee is $20 in addition to greens fees and will include pairing parties at Mr. Bogies on Friday and Saturday nights.
For further information, contact the tournament’s director, Bill Coker, at 693-3812, or to register, call the pro shop at 777-6006, ext. 1.
