WAPA: INSULATOR FAILURE TRIPS POWER OUTAGE

March 24, 2003 – A power outage at 12:43 a.m. Monday left Feeders 8, 9 and 10 without electrical service for several hours, according to a Water and Power Authority release. The failure also affected Feeder 2, which remained without power for about 15 minutes.
The outage occurred when insulators on the 24-KV aerial bus failed and tripped the transformers in the substation that provides power for that system, the release stated. WAPA crews replaced the insulators and restored service to all feeders by 5:15 a.m., it said.
