CHURCH EVENT TO MARK MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY

Jan. 17, 2003 –– St. Thomas will observe Martin Luther King Day on Monday with an ecumenical celebration at Memorial Moravian Church beginning at 5 p.m.
"It's always great to reflect on the principles he lived by," Carol Henneman said of the civil rights leader. She is helping to organize Monday's program, which is being sponsored by the Tourism Department and the Office of the Governor.
Henneman said that the Rev. Ralph Prince of Memorial Moravian will give the invocation and the Rev. Simon Peter Opira of Holy Family Catholic Church will offer the benediction.
Sen. Shawn-Michael Malone; Luis "Tito" Morales, Central Labor Council president; and James O'Bryan, public affairs assistant to Gov. Charles W. Turnbull and chair of the Democratic Party Territorial Committee, will deliver remarks.
Henneman said the program will feature readings from King's speeches.
Music will be provided by young people from Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School, J. Antonio Jarvis Elementary School, Seventh-day Adventist School, the Charlotte Amalie High School Concert and Gospel Choir and the Moravian School choir, along with a joint Lutheran choir.
