Dear Source,
It's change-over time again, and the V.I. government will have a new face in January. Well, what's new already has started even before the elected officials actually take office.
The increase in pay would have been justifiable if the V.I. were running smoothly, but it isn’t. We have government departments that have not seen any increase in pay for the last 10 years and some that have not received their retroactive pay. The hospitals are in shambles, and citizens fear for their lives when they have to go in simply for a common cold.
Yet, the executives increase their pay. This to me shows that they care about themselves, not the community.
It is my responsibility along with that of other citizens to speak out at this injustice. My views about this issue are that it should be corrected internally, but I can't believe that will happen.
The Virgin Islands seems to be heading to poverty level, and something needs to be done. I would hate to see a federal investigation started, but I think that is what is needed. Sorry to say, that may be taking place very soon.
