Sept. 23, 2002- The 17th annual Coastweeks International Coastal Cleanup began Saturday and will continue through Oct. 12. The Planning and Natural Resources Department is inviting the public to get involved in trash retrieval projects during this time.
To find out how an organization can volunteer and make a difference "by getting the trash out of the splash," a release states, call 774-3320, ext. 5117, or 775-6762 on St. Thomas or 692-4046 on St. Croix.
The release has a special word for individuals looking for volunteer opportunities to meet school or other requirements: "Are you looking for a community service project to earn community service hours? We've got the project for you."
DPNR, the University of the Virgin Islands Marine Advisory Service and the Anti-Litter and Beautification Commission invite volunteers to work "for a few hours a day and gain your hours of community service."
