PRINTMAKING RESIDENCY OFFERED IN PHILADELPHIA

Aug. 19, 2002 – Virgin Islands artists are invited to apply for a residency at a Philadelphia graphic art center's printmaking studios next spring.
The residency at Brandywine Graphic Workshop is being offered in cooperation with the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation and the V.I. Council on the Arts as part of the MAAF Creative Fellowships program.
Artists interesting in the residency should submit proposals as to how they would utilize the time and support that will be made available for the artist-in-residency to create a new work for exhibition. The award includes a $1,500 stipend, travel money, housing allowance, access to studios and equipment, and technical assistance.
Applications should include the artist's name, postal address, telephone and e-mail address; a current resume; a single-page description of the proposed work to be done; 10 slides of recent work with a list specifying titles, mediums, sizes and dates of completion of the pieces shown; and a self-addressed, stamped envelope large enough for the return of the slides.
Applicants should send these materials to: Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation Residency, Brandywine Graphic Workshop, 730 S. Broad St., Philadelphia PA 19146-1622, to the attention of Allan Edmunds. The deadline for submitting applications is Oct. 15.
The Brandywine Workshop, located in downtown Philadelphia, is a culturally diverse institution engaged in the creation, promotion and advancement of printmaking as a fine art. Founded in 1972, it offers visual artists the opportunity to explore large-format offset lithography and related technology in the production of original, limited fine-art prints. It offers fellowship opportunities in production printmaking for established and emerging artists, including underserved ethnic artists. There are offset lithography, hand relief printing and screen printing studios, along with a computer graphic lab, with a digital printing studio planned.
Administrative offices, exhibition galleries and a computer lab are housed in a historic four-story firehouse building dating from 1861 that was renovated for its current use in 1993. In a separate building, also of four stories, are the print studios, a computer lab and space leased to other not-for-profit art organizations. For more information about the center, visit the Brandywine Workshop Web site.
