May 16, 2002 – A local pageant designed to showcase the talents of men in the Virgin Islands community "who have reached their age of wisdom" will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the Holiday Inn on St. Thomas waterfront.
Those who will show off their talents in the Mr. Senior Virgin Islands Personality Pageant, according to a release, are:
– Lee Carle, longtime newsman, presently reporting for WSTA and WSVI-TV
– Leo Gobourn, veterans representation in the V.I. Dept. of Labor; formerly a teacher of Air Force classes at Eudora Kean High School
– Romeo Malone, author and poet
– Leander Trotman, retired police officer who sings calypso as "Big T."
Ida White, spokesperson for sponsor Ms. V.I. Senior America Cameo Club, said this pageant has been held before; in 2000 Lawrence Benjamin was chosen as Mr. Personality, but other contestants all earned titles and crowns: Andrew Rutnik, Mr. Philosopher Patrick Williams, and Mr. Player "Sonny" Davis.
White said all contestants in this year's event likewise will be winners, and one will be chosen Mr. Senior VI Personality.
