May 3, 2002 – UVI sophomore Paula Gumbs received a national radio mention Thursday morning as a recipient of one of the more than 40 Tom Joyner Foundation scholarships being awarded to students at The University of the Virgin Islands this month.
UVI has been selected as HBCU for the month of May as part of the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show, which is broadcast on KISS 101.3 FM, one of the Knight Quality Stations.
Tune in mornings between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m., when the Tom Joyner Morning Show will feature UVI as its HBCU of the month at its live "Sky Show" being broadcast from Selma, Alabama.
Gumbs, a business administration major, is the recipient of a $1,500 scholarship from Daimler Chrysler, one of the sponsors of the Tom Joyner Foundation. Additional scholarship recipients will be announced throughout the month.
