May 2, 2002 – The V.I. Port Authority has announced that repairs are scheduled for the Ann E. Abramson Marine Facility on St. Croix.
VIPA has received design plans and specifications from its contractor, The Maguire Group, Inc. Requests for bids will be let by mid-May, and a bid awarded with notice to proceed will be issued by Aug. 1. The project is estimated to cost $600,000 and should be completed within 90 days of the notice to proceed, according to a VIPA release.
The pier's roll on/roll off ramp, the abutment of the remnant of the old dock and pedestrian apron were damaged during Hurricane Lenny in 1999. Construction will not interfere with cruise ship arrivals to the pier.
VIPA has also purchased light poles to replace two damaged poles. "The poles should be in place and all lighting at the Abramson pier will be fully operational within six weeks," said VIPA executive director Gordon A. Finch.
