RUNNERS REMEMBER MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.

Jan. 16, 2002 – Long distance runners completed the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Fort-To-Fort Run on Sunday in memory of the civil rights leader.
The event, which a release stated was not a race, started at 6 a.m. under overcast skies which protected the group as they made their way west on the road between Fort Christianvern in Christiansted and Fort Frederik in Frederiksted.
The annual run was organized by V.I. Pace Runners, and included runners Denise Blanchette, Sue Brown, Elen Donovan, Will Franks, Leopold Fredericks, Luke Fredericks, Betsy Gladfelter, Bill Gladfelter, Karen Hall, Theresa Harper, Roger Hatfield, Louise Middaugh, Todd Newman, Chip Renn, Teddy Seymour, Marlon Williams, Wallace Williams, Rachel Witty, and Jude Woodcock.
They completed the 15.5-mile run within 2 hours and 40 minutes. All participants receive special certificates for their participation.
The next event on the V.I. Pace schedule is the annual Toast-To-The-Captain 8.4-mile Road Race on Feb. 9 at 6 a.m. in Christiansted. The Black History Month event honors Captain Teddy Seymour of St. Croix, the first black man to sail around the world alone.
