V.I. EMPLOYERS CAN HELP NATIONAL GUARD RESPONSE

Oct. 15, 2001 – Employers in the Virgin Islands can assist the V.I. National Guard's response to the present crisis by allowing employees time off to serve in the nation's defense.
President George W. Bush recently recognized and thanked employers who support those employees who serve as Guardsmen and Reservists, who are preparing to play an essential role in defeating terrorism.
"Guardsmen and Reservists will serve not only as a strong symbol to all that we're prepared to take the necessary actions," said the President, "but will be part of helping define the spirit and courage of America. And I'm grateful."
Employers of National Guard personnel and Reservists who have questions or concerns should contact the V.I. Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), according to a release from the Committee. ESGR has personnel ready with information and answers regarding the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, Title 38, U.S. Code, as it applies to civilian employment and military duty.
ESGR is a Defense Department agency established in 1972 to promote understanding and support among employers of employees who serve with the National Guard and Reserve.
Employers or service members with questions or issues regarding military duty should contact ESGR representatives at 1-800-336-4590, the web site at http://www.esgr.org or the office of local ESGR state chair Raymond Jones at 774-4216.
