WORKSHOPS TO UPDATE VETERANS ON BENEFITS

July 19, 2001 – The V.I. Office of Veterans Affairs will host benefit workshops on Wednesday, July 25, on St. Thomas and Thursday, July 26, on St. Croix in conjunction with its regular monthly counseling program for veterans in the territory.
Counselors from the regional Veterans Affairs office in Puerto Rico will conduct the workshops, which are intended to update veterans on benefits available to them, the V.I. office director, Fernando Webster, said in a release.
The workshop for the St. Thomas/St. John district will be held at the National Guard Armory in Estate Nazareth. The one for the St. Croix district will take place at the American Legion Hall on Hospital Street in Christiansted. In both cases, counseling will begin at 2 p.m. as usual, with the workshops to follow from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
All military veterans are encouraged to attend the workshops, as are widows and widowers, spouses and dependents of veterans, as well as members of the Army and Air National Guard and Reserves, the release stated.
Because of a staff vacancy in the St. Thomas office, located in Nisky Center, it currently is open only on Wednesdays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Webster said he anticipates that the vacancy will be filled shortly.
